My Mister

As I stated in a previous post, I feel I am just too old to have a "boyfriend", so I refer to my significant other as "My Mister".

We have an unusual arrangement.  We met back in 1994 right after my divorce.  I had just gotten out of truck driving school, and he was the Operations Manager at the first job I got.  He trained me for part of day one and that was the last I saw of him until months later.  I was so focused on trying to learn my job and hone my driving skills, that it didn't once cross my mind that this was anybody other than a boss.  He lived in Ft. Collins and I lived close to Denver, so we didn't cross paths again for a long time.

Many months later, I heard through the grapevine that he was going into the hospital to have back surgery.  A friend of mine and I were taking a trip to Ft. Collins to go shopping in Old Town and it was  the weekend following his surgery.  I just had this sudden thought to go and visit him in the hospital while we were up there, so I did.

Rather than go into lengthy detail right here in this post, I'll just say that we started dating shortly after, and the rest was history, as they say.

We tried our hand at living in the same house, but being the independent people we are, we found ourselves butting heads over the raising of children.  We both had minor children from our previous marriages.  We talked of marriage at different times over the years, but never made it to the altar for one reason or another and it's probably a good thing.  We had differences that made it impossible to live in the same house, but we have so much in common as well, that we didn't want to separate completely.

So, he lives in his house and I live in mine.  I purchased my townhouse in 2011 and he resides in his childhood home in the northern mountains of Colorado.  It's about an hour and a half from my front door to his, so not too far away.  We made the agreement that we would each run our households the way that we see fit and it has worked out great.

I am set in my ways and I like things the way I like them.  I spend my money on what I want and I come and go as I please.  He does the same.  I don't know about some of you, but in my later years, I enjoy my solitude when I get it.  I am fine with my own company.  I think he is as well.  We talk regularly on the telephone and get together in person a few times a month.  It's an arrangement that I feel is just right.

I guess you can probably tell that these three are brothers.
